Sue became a nurse because she enjoys the mix of science, math, and caring. Her grandmother was her inspiration and led her to a love of geriatrics. She has been part of ANA since her freshman year at Vanderbilt, as a member of the student nurses organization. Her continuing involvement was through the Tennessee Nurses Association and then ASNA, when she moved to Alabama.
I particularly love the networking opportunities that we have at the state level. Grassroots organizations make a difference and I always want to be a part of where change is initiated.
As an ASNA member Sue has chaired the annual convention, served as an elected delegate to too many conventions to count, served as Parliamentarian/Board member, and also served on the ANA Ethics panel. Sue is on the board of the Southern Magnolia Havanese Club. She trains dogs at Huntsville Obedience Training Club, she is a librarian, and Treasurer for the Rocket City Clown Alley (which she founded).
I started this journey as an LPN and am now a doctorally-prepared RN with a husband and four children and 52 years of nursing experience.
Sue volunteers at Huntsville Hospital and is 1st Vice President of the Auxiliary Board at Huntsville Hospital. She also volunteers with the North Alabama Medical Corp, and is publicity chair for the annual Greater Huntsville Humane Society’s Dog Ball. She has two therapy dogs, Horse and Gizmo.
