Dr. Ellen Buckner is Professor of Nursing in the Ida Moffett School of Nursing, College of Health Sciences, Samford University, in Birmingham, Alabama. She holds a PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and is a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and Certified Asthma Educator (AE-C). Her theoretical approach involves applying the Roy Adaptation Model and the Samford University College of Health Sciences Interprofessional Education Framework.
I became a nurse to combine my love of science and compassion for all persons. Nursing is a calling I found while I was in nursing school!
Dr. Buckner chairs the ASNA Leadership Academy and has participated extensively in leadership academies for Sigma (STTI) and mentoring programs. She chairs a Global Leadership Mentoring Community through Sigma that links emerging nurse leaders with experienced leaders worldwide. She chairs the Alabama Asthma Coalition and her recent research is in interprofessional education and practice to enhance asthma self-management adaptation in middle school students. She is a recipient of the ASNA Cindajo Overton Nurse Educator Award and the Ellen Gregg Ingalls/UAB National Alumni Award for Lifetime Achievement in Teaching.
